The Bennetts on Bellarine Origin Story
Bennetts on Bellarine began as a vision—one that combined family, a deep love for wine, a passion for the beautiful Bellarine Peninsula and a desire to create a place where people could come together to celebrate life’s special moments.
It all started with a chat under our glorious tree between Jamie and his mum Gill and has grown into a cellar door with amazing casual dining options nestled amongst the rolling hills of Bellarine. They shared a dream of producing high-quality cool climate wines that reflected the unique terroir of the peninsula. With hard work, patience and a commitment to excellence the vines began to flourish and Bennetts on Bellarine soon emerged as a destination known for its cool climate wines and inviting atmosphere.
From humble beginnings Bennetts on Bellarine has become a beloved part of the local community and a must-visit destination for those exploring the Bellarine Peninsula. With its breathtaking views, welcoming atmosphere and commitment to showcasing the best of the region Bennetts continues to grow while staying true to its original vision—celebrating the land, the wine and the people who make it all possible.
In addition Bennetts on Bellarine has become a sought-after venue for weddings, events, private and corporate functions. Keeping with the old and bringing in some new at Bennetts on Bellarine
It was a busy Friday night at The Carron Pub in Melbourne when Jamie Bennett’s phone rang. It was his mum Gill.
“I just found a beautiful 10 acre vineyard and homestead on the Bellarine. I think we should buy it and you can run the Cellar Door”.
It only took a second for Jamie to respond, “I’m in”.
Over the last five years, Bennetts on Bellarine has been a family project involving three generations that continues to grow organically. They have built a brand that values old-fashioned hospitality and a feel good relaxed atmosphere.
The first time the Bennetts opened their doors to their neighbours and people visiting the Bellarine, it was out of an old milk shed that had been on the property for decades.
“When we open the doors at Bennetts we are inviting neighbours and strangers to enjoy our backyard”.
During that year they talked about their dream of building a new Cellar Door in its place. One where families can come and enjoy a day out, have good food and drink and feel relaxed in a winery setting.
Fast forward to now - the brand new Cellar Door at Bennetts is finally finished. Mixing old with the new, the design can best be described as rustic rock. Built out of four shipping containers, the new building features repurposed fence palings, large ornate mirrors, a selection of artwork from Gill’s private collection and its most important feature – a stunning view of the You Yangs.
And while the building may be new, the team at Bennetts worked hard to incorporate aspects of that old milk shed and where the property and brand has come from. So for 2019, we are mixing some old with the new for a brand new awesome product we think people will love!
